The project has been implemented by the Media Development Foundation with the support of UNESCO Ukraine and the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine. The programme is a part of wider UNESCO's efforts to support the safety of journalists and press freedom in the country.
Investigative Journalism is an intense 3-month program for journalists that brings on cutting-edge skills, knowledge and tools to conduct impactful funds misappropriation and corruption investigations, particularly while rebuilding Ukraine.
The course is geared towards learning contemporary practices, tendencies and working in groups that will go all the way from shaping hypotheses to publishing an investigation together with mentors. Participants will get to know how to find a topic and pitch it to an editor; learn to thoroughly work with registers and databases, analyze and verify evidence, use AI tools and write programs from scratch to optimize their work; familiarize themselves with data visualization to create fact-based convincing and engaging content.
The program involves completing various tasks and considering case studies modeling real-life scenarios drawn from hands-on experience in investigative journalism. It culminates in the presentation of investigations for the staff of Ukrainian investigative outlets that are expected to provide their expert feedback.
Overall, the course builds a versatile understanding of all aspects of investigative journalism, leaving its students fully equipped to work at editorial offices. The best will be offered a permanent job.
